Fox Red Labradors are a rare-colored version of the Labrador Retriever. As with the Silver and Charcoal Labs, they are currently not recognized by the AKC based on the Fox Red color. Despite this, they can be registered as a purebred Yellow Labrador Retriever, as the darker colored coat is not considered to be a disqualifying factor. Due to its unique and certainly eye-catching color, the Fox Red Labrador continues to grow in popularity.

As long as this dog breed has a chance to get in daily walks and go outside and run at least once a day, and they get plenty of attention, they are content. They are not overly affected by cold weather, but because they have a dense double coat they can become sensitive to high temperatures. Fox Red Labs are a generally healthy breed, especially when proper attention is paid to screening potential genetic issues. Being one of the most intelligent and highly trainable breeds out there, any color variant of the Labrador Retriever is ideal for beginner dog owners. Labs have a double coat which consists of a short, thick top coat and a soft, water-resistant undercoat. Grooming a Fox Red Lab is a treat – they love spending one-on-one time with their owners.
